How to Play Quad Splash

Quad Splash is a chain-reaction puzzle based on the classic Ten Drops Game. You get a board packed with water droplets and a small supply of drops. Every tap you make both spends a drop and sets off a reaction โ€” the whole game is about making each drop do as much work as possible.

The board and your drops

Each round starts with a 6ร—6 board randomly packed with droplets. Droplets come in four sizes, level 1 to level 4: a level 1 droplet is nearly empty, a level 4 droplet is full and ready to burst.

You begin every run with 10 drops of water. That number is shown in the jar next to the board, and it is the only resource you manage โ€” there is no timer, no energy system and no lives.

What one tap does

Tap any cell and you spend 1 drop to inject water into it. That droplet goes up one level: level 1 becomes level 2, level 2 becomes level 3, and so on. Tapping costs a drop whether the cell is empty or already holds a droplet, so tapping an empty cell is only worth it when you are deliberately building a droplet up.

Bursting: where chains come from

Inject one more drop into a level 4 droplet and it bursts. The cell empties completely and fires one splash in each of the four directions โ€” up, down, left and right. This is the engine of the whole game: one burst is cheap, but the splashes it throws can trigger further bursts, and those bursts throw splashes of their own.

How splashes travel

A splash flies in a straight line until something stops it:

Draining: the only way to empty the board

Here is the rule that separates Quad Splash from most puzzle games. Injecting water never removes water from the board โ€” it only moves it around and makes droplets bigger. The only way to actually get water off the board is to fling it past the edge. A chain that runs toward the middle just rearranges the mess; a chain that runs toward the border drains the board.

Think of the board as a sink with no plug: water only leaves by splashing over the rim. Corners and edges are where that happens most easily.

Recycling drops

Draining pays you back. If a single tap flings 12 or more drops off the board, you recycle 1 drop back into the jar. You can recycle at most 2 drops per board. This is what makes long runs possible: played well, the board refills your jar instead of emptying it.

Clearing a board

Get every droplet off the board and it clears instantly. A fresh random board takes its place, you are rewarded with +3 drops, and โ€” importantly โ€” your score keeps adding up. There is no reset between boards, so a good run compounds.

How a run ends

There is no level cap. The run ends at exactly one moment: your drops reach zero and there are still droplets on the board. Because later boards are packed more heavily, clearing costs more taps as you go, and the game slowly tightens the screw on its own.

Scoring

Every burst scores, and the longer the chain the bigger the bonus โ€” blowing up half the board with one tap is worth far more than the same number of bursts spread over several taps. Clearing a board pays an extra bonus based on how many boards you have cleared and how many drops you had left, so finishing a board quickly is worth more than grinding it out.
